One-on-One with Michelle (7)

Today’s movement is simply me stretching and conversing with my friend, Michelle. We recorded this in October of 2019. As fate would have it (unsurprisingly to those who know the enneagram), both of us 7s had hit a breaking point in pandemic isolation and jumped in our cars for road trips. I left Minneapolis, she left Dallas, and (though we hadn’t planned to), we both ended up in DC at the same time.

Michelle was going through a major transition in her life, as many did during 2019. She and I had been talking on the phone about whether she was a 3 or a 7, and I think you’ll be able to hear the energy of both as she talks. The key factor that shifted her solidly to the 7 category was this: though achievement is very important to her, the definition of what that means isn’t necessarily a tangible goal. Rather, achievement is based on, “Am I enjoying this?” Aha! Motivation. Her primary need isn’t for accolades or affirmation—it’s to dwell in an interesting, fun, meaningful space.
